BIO

Dylan's research focuses on the intersection between podcasting, journalism, and democracy. He has a particular interest in exploring how podcasting can be used to encourage civic engagement and social-political wellbeing, both through collaborative production approaches and efforts to support productive forms of listening. His published research spans news podcasts and political participation, podcast journalism formats, podcasting methodologies, and journalism pedagogy.

Dylan has produced practice-based research outputs in podcasting, and has worked on numerous collaborative podcast projects. These include hosting the Seeing Green podcast, for an ARC Discovery Project ‘Remaking the Australian Environment Through Documentary Film and Television’, and producing The Masterclass podcast, designed as a learning resource for journalism students.

In 2024, Dylan won two Australian Podcast Awards for his work on The Masterclass, and was a joint-winner of the JERAA Award for Outstanding Teaching in a Journalism Program.

He is an editorial assistant with Radio Journal: International Studies in Broadcast & Audio Media.

Dylan is also a podcast producer and broadcaster, and currently hosts the weekly program Future Perfect on Melbourne radio station 3RRR.

He teaches across various aspects of journalism, such as news and feature writing, interviewing, and audio-visual journalism, and is a regular media commentator on issues relating to his research.
