BIO
Dr. Mehta is a Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health at the School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University and also an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Data Science & AI at Monash University. Before joining RMIT, he was a Founding Member of the Augmented Intelligence and Multimodal Analytics (AIM) for Health Lab at Faculty of IT at Monash University. He has developed foundation models, agentic and multimodal AI systems that are trustworthy and explainable for different healthcare applications including neurological disorders, dermatology, and ophthalmology. He has also held research roles in industry organisations at IBM Research Australia and Panasonic R&D Center Singapore.
Funding and Collaborations Dr. Mehta has attracted AUD $1.95M+ in competitive research funding as a leading Chief Investigator, including a National Imaging Facility Infrastructure Grant, Digital Health CRC-P funding, NVIDIA Academic AI for Science Grant, National Industry PhD Program, and Australian Academy of Science Fellowship and Travel Grants. He has established and leads major collaborative programs with leading clinicians and institutions, including Alfred Health, Epilepsy Foundation, IIT Bombay and Koita Centre of Digital Health in India, and multiple industry partners including Aervision Pty. Ltd., Molemap Pty. Ltd.
Prizes & Awards Dr. Mehta’s research and translation has attracted several international and nation prizes and fellowship awards including the Australian Academy of Science (AAS) Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF) Early Career Fellowship 2026; Top 3 Finalist for the Morgan Mansell Prize (Victorian Young Melanoma Researcher) 2023; One of the top 200 computer science researchers across the world to attend the 10th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), 2023; The sole recipient of the travel grant to the 10th HLF from Australian Academy of Science (AAS), 2023; One of the 50 TOSHIBA Global Fellow all over the world by the TOSHIBA R&D in Japan, 2018; One of the 90 undergraduate students (out of ~ 1 million) for the DAAD-WISE German Academic Exchange Working Internship in Science and Engineering Fellowship, 2013 at Technical University of Munich (TUM).
